The Brazilian Institute for Responsible Gaming (IBJR) recognizes that bettor protection and responsible advertising are central issues for the regulated betting sector and remain a permanent focus of the Institute’s work.
IBJR is closely following the discussions surrounding the municipal initiatives announced in recent days regarding restrictions on betting advertising. The Institute believes this debate should be conducted on a technical basis, through dialogue between public authorities and the regulated sector, with the goal of continuously improving consumer protection standards.
It is important to note that the fixed-odds betting industry is regulated and supervised by the Federal Government, through Brazil’s Ministry of Finance. Authorized operators entered the market only after completing a rigorous licensing process based on clear rules and significant investments to comply with legal and regulatory requirements. For this reason, any changes to advertising rules should be discussed at the federal level, preserving legal certainty and regulatory predictability for companies that have chosen to invest in Brazil’s regulated betting market.
