The Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming (IBJR) follows the actions of the Judiciary with confidence and reaffirms that regulation and the continuous improvement of legislation are the path to ensuring legal certainty, economic development, and consumer protection. Prohibition does not offer an effective solution to the challenges facing the sector.
The request for a public hearing submitted by the Office of the Attorney General (AGU) to Justice Luiz Fux reinforces the need for institutional dialogue and an in-depth discussion on the matter, with the participation of stakeholders and an analysis of the impacts of the proposed measures.
In the IBJR’s assessment, the government’s own recognition of the need for this debate reinforces that the matter warranted prior discussion and weakens the justification of urgency for the issuance of a provisional measure. A change of this magnitude should be developed through the regular legislative process, with transparency, data, and evidence.
The Institute remains available to immediately contribute to solutions that reconcile and expedite the process with the central objectives of consumer protection, combating the illegal market, and the sustainable development of the regulated sector.
