Associations Join Forces in Support of the Regulated Betting Market
ANJL and IBJR Formalize Technical and Institutional Cooperation Agreement to Develop Joint Actions Against the Illegal Betting Market in Brazil
The National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) and the Brazilian Institute for Responsible Gaming (IBJR) formalized on Wednesday (9), together with the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) in Brasília, the technical and institutional cooperation agreement previously announced in June during the IBJR event that launched the economic research study by LCA and Locomotiva on the illegal betting market in Brazil.
The initiative, led by presidents Plínio Lemos Jorge (ANJL) and Fernando Vieira (IBJR), aims to strengthen collaboration between the two organizations through joint actions to combat the illegal betting market in Brazil, in favor of legality, sector integrity, and player protection.
This alliance comes at a time when the industry faces pressures threatening its economic sustainability in the country, putting at risk the regulatory framework built so far. It is estimated that the sector will generate more than R$ 4 billion in tax revenue for public coffers this year alone.
“This agreement shows that our sector is united, conveying a message of unwavering support for responsible gaming. We share the common goal of ensuring the viability of the regulated betting market. We are facing a major challenge, as a potentially high tax burden could compromise the sector and encourage the growth of illegal platforms, which already dominate most betting operations in the country,” stated the ANJL president.
“The consolidation of this partnership is a concrete response to the challenges threatening the regulated environment in Brazil. Joining forces with ANJL enhances our efforts against illegal operators, promoting more safety for bettors and sustainability for the sector. Combating illegal bets and defending a regulated market driven by responsible gaming are our top priorities,” said Fernando Vieira, president of IBJR.
The agreement, delivered to the Secretary of Prizes and Betting, Regis Dudena, includes several actions, such as the exchange of information and data about the activities of unlicensed companies and other awareness initiatives.
